Can I use the Montgomery County Public Library?

Yes, Montgomery County Public Library is part of our consortium of libraries. They share a common library catalog with NHMCCD. To have a book of theirs sent here, just place a hold by typing in your library barcode number into the catalog. You of course can visit any of these libraries and check out materials. You will need to get one of the Montgomery County Public Library cards.

How can I check out books from the University of Houston or other college libraries ?

There is an excellent library sharing program called TexShare <http://www.texshare.edu>. TexShare is a cooperative program designed to improve library service to students, faculty, and staff of Texas institutions of higher education. This program allows NHMCCD students, faculty and staff to borrow library materials from other colleges in the state. The TexShare Library Card Program is currently limited to  university libraries and community colleges, and public libraries soon to be added. To participate you must obtain a TexShare Card at your college library (verifying that you have no outstanding fines or overdue books). Then you go to any of the member libraries and check out the books you need. You must return the materials in person or by first-class mail to the lending library.

Am I able to order a book or article to be sent here?

Yes. INTERLIBRARY LOAN allows you to have access to materials from other libraries. When you need a book or article that is not available in the printed and electronic resources of NHMCCD libraries, you may request that we try and find the material for you from another library. This is a free service available to NHMCCD credit students, faculty, and staff. Once acquired, the materials may be picked up at the library, or by special request, may be mailed to you. ILL requests may take up to two weeks to fulfill. For more information about ILL, check with the library Circulation Desk.
